Animal-Rights Buzzkills Want Super Bowl Party-Goers Crunching Carrots

Washington, DC—The “Cancer Project” organization circulating an irresponsible “Five Most Unhealthful Super Bowl Party Foods” list this week is a counterfeit cancer charity, the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom charged today. The Cancer Project, said the Center, is an animal rights group determined to demonize the consumption of beef, pork, poultry, and fish. The party foods the organization called “unhealthy,” not coincidentally, include two meat-lovers’ pizzas, a chicken pasta dish, a tuna melt, and chicken wings.

The Cancer Project’s president is a former president of The PETA Foundation. And more than two-thirds of The Cancer Project’s budget comes from the wealthy founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida.

Center for Consumer Freedom Director of Research David Martosko had the following comment: “Super Bowl Sunday is about watching football and eating food, not hugging cows and saving chickens. This phony-baloney Cancer Project group shouldn’t try to ruin the big game with a health scare. I’m throwing a flag on this whole nonsense campaign. Fifteen yards—personal foul for unnecessary buzzkill.”

Martosko continued: “The largest study ever to examine links between meat and colon cancer found no connection at all. But that hasn’t stopped animal rights groups from trying to make Super Bowl Sunday a tofu-only zone by posing as a mainstream cancer charity. It’s all pretty funny when you consider the number of powerful carnivores on the field. Can you imagine Big Ben or Kurt Warner going vegetarian? Troy Polamalu or Larry Fitzgerald as a carrot-cruncher? It wouldn’t be much of a Super Bowl.”
