CSPI's Warning Label Obsession

Not content with knocking positive messages off adult beverage labels and the Food Pyramid, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is now petitioning the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to increase the "noticeability" of existing warning labels. They are demanding that the label be put on the front of the container, in red or black ink, surrounded by a lined border, with a particular typeface to "maximize legibility," accompanied by a red pictorial device... that is a triangle with an exclamation mark inside."

The BATF says they're "studying the petition", but still CSPI wants more.

For those responsible adults who get their drinks by the glass, CSPI is demanding that all restaurants, taverns and bars put up poster-sized warning signs alerting customers to the "dangers" of adult beverages.

The bottom line is that the nannies at CSPI do not want Americans to drink, period. They have stated that they would love to see consumption reduced by 75%. Their calls for labels and warnings have one goal in mind: to stop customers from ordering their choice of adult beverages.

    Background | Quotes | Financials
MADD has managed to artificially enlarge the societal problem of drunk driving by continuously expanding the parameters of the “drinking driving problem.” Even though the real drunk driving problem has been reduced to a relatively small group of incorrigible “hard-core” offenders, MADD continues to intensify its focus on responsible adults. read more here »
