Issue 2 failure might mean loss of jobs

By: David Martosko
Newspaper: Chillicothe Gazette

Issue 2 promises to be a defining moment for agriculture in Ohio, as voters will have a rare opportunity to protect farmers from the Humane Society of the United States, an out-of-state group whose goals include the elimination of all animal agriculture. ["Frankfort meeting explores Issue 2," Gazette, Sept. 27]

HSUS is a "humane society" in name only, pursuing the same fringe goals as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It's also far richer. In legislatures and at the ballot box, HSUS is attempting to cripple America's meat, dairy and egg producers.

Thousands of Ohio farming jobs could be lost if Issue 2 fails in November, and consumers will ultimately pay more to feed their families. Sometimes a "humane society" isn't really a "humane society." And sometimes animal "welfare" advocates are really animal "rights" zealots in sheep's clothing.
