Waterkeepers, Farmers Weepers

Iowa hog farmers trying to make a living could be treated no better than mobsters if the Waterkeeper Alliance gets its way.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s anti-hog organization is telling Iowa officials that unless the state's hog farms don't comply with Waterkeeper's demands, the group and its "high-powered set of lawyers" will file suit under racketeering law, The Des Moines Register reports. (The American Heritage Dictionary defines "racketeering" as "extortion, loansharking, bribery, and obstruction of justice.")

Waterkeepers works under the guise of keeping water clean -- but really the group is part of an orchestrated effort to cripple U.S. meat production. In October, Kennedy himself called pork production an "outlaw industry," and said, "We hope we can put an end to this industry." And Kennedy and his group don't plan to stop there. Referring to the poultry and beef industries, he said earlier this year: "We're starting with hogs. After the hogs, then we are going after the other ones."

Expect them to start with chicken farms in Oklahoma sometime next month.

The Farm Sanctuary represent themselves as absolutely harmless, warm and fuzzy islands of compassion. But in many cases they are complicit in crimes committed by activists against cattlemen, dairymen, egg producers, and other livestock industry professionals. read more here »
