“Even If Animal Research Resulted In A Cure For AIDS, We'd Be Against It”

Anti-PETA Ads Running On D.C. Metro Use Radical PETA’s Own Words

Washington, DC – Most Americans would do anything in their power to save the life of a loved one diagnosed with a terminal illness. But most Americans aren’t members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The radical group dedicated to “total animal liberation” has made it clear that given the choice between saving the lives of sick people and lab rats, rodents should win every time.

In new ads running on the Washington, D.C. Metro system, the Center for Consumer Freedom draws attention to PETA’s decidedly unethical hostility toward the use of animals for life-saving medical research. The ads quote PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk saying: “Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we’d be against it.”

PETA’s preference for lab animals over people has resulted in boycotts of the nation’s most respected medical research charities – including the March of Dimes, the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (Race for the Cure).

Most treatments and therapies available today to leukemia, diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s sufferers were tested on animals before human beings benefited. The same can be said of anesthesia and countless surgical techniques that routinely save human lives.

Center for Consumer Freedom director of research David Martosko said, “PETA has raked in millions of dollars over the years from people who think their contributions are helping to shelter animals. But those donations are helping to damage respected medical charities, smear medical researchers, and support violent actions against research facilities. Americans would be better served donating money to their local shelters and leaving PETA out in the cold.”

The anti-PETA billboards direct Metro riders to the Center for Consumer Freedom’s website, where they can learn about PETA’s unethical practices, links to domestic terrorism, and massive animal euthanasia program.

Why is PCRM lobbying Congress? Why is PCRM lobbying Congress?
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is an animal rights group, not a mainstream medical charity. It's lobbying federal legislators in an attempt to hurt ranchers and other livestock farmers. Despite the word "physicians" in its name, less than 4 percent of the group's members graduated from medical school. click to view »
