Consumer Group Criticizes PETA’s Crude Billboard Ads

Statement From CCF On The Fringe Animal Rights Group New Florida Billboard Campaign

Washington - Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom denounced People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for its new billboards in Jacksonville, Florida. The outdoor ads, while intending to promote a vegan lifestyle, attack full-figured vacationers by calling them "whales." Artwork depicts an overweight cartoon female wearing a bikini with the slogan "Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber: Go Vegan."

David Martosko, Director of Research at the Center for Consumer Freedom, made the following statement regarding the tasteless ad campaign:

"PETA's ad is meant to feed off the insecurities of the body-conscious in order to promote meatless eating, regardless of the humiliation it may cause. The group has consistently promoted a message of animal "rights" with total disregard to the human cruelty it causes. To equate any person (regardless of size) with a whale, or any other animal, is mean-spirited, cruel, and ugly.

If Americans stopped giving their money to the radical group, PETA wouldn't be able to buy moronic billboards like this. That would make beach season a lot more ethical for everyone."

The Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit coalition supported by restaurants, food companies, and consumers, working together to promote personal responsibility and protect consumer choices.
