Pork Nannies Get Bounced Out Of Court

A North Carolina judge has dismissed a pair of lawsuits brought against the nation’s largest hog producer. The suits had been filed by the Water Keeper Alliance, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s enviro-nanny coalition. In issuing his ruling, the judge declared that the plaintiffs had failed to to prove their claim that Smithfield’s operations were responsible for polluting the state’s rivers. Smithfield VP Richard Poulson summed it up for the Associated Press, saying that the lawsuits “were driven by the social agenda of a group of people determined to destroy the way of life of thousands of honest, hardworking family farmers.” Kennedy had earlier vowed to go after the beef and poultry industries next.
