With “a sickle in his hand and a broad grin on his face,” retired French shopkeeper Jacques Lachaud helped 150 activists hack down a field of genetically improved corn in a small French town. “This feels really good,” he proclaimed, the decimated stalks surrounding him. But why did he do it? “I’m sick of lousy food,” he told Reuters — and decided to force others to follow his own food choices by destroying an alternative. So while Lachaud can eat what he chooses, he’s going to keep chopping away at your right to do the same: “I will definitely be back for more if they want us.”
