The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), funded by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Turner Foundation among others, offered a tasteless eulogy for Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas just a day after his death. PCRM’s Neal Barnard, head of the PETA-connected animal rights front group, attacked Wendy’s for serving a “meat and dairy oriented diet.”
“The food cops didn’t wait long to make a postmortem arrest of Dave Thomas,” writes Austin Statesman columnist Arnold Garcia. “The timing of [Barnard’s] letter left a bad taste. As much as the food cops may disapprove, hamburger chains such as Wendy’s are popular because there is a demand for the product… [Thomas] deserved more respect than the nutrition police showed him.”
