Judge Deals Second Blow To Anti-Meat Crusaders

A full-court press from the animal rights zealots at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) was stopped in its tracks this month … again. On Sunday, New York Judge Denny Chin threw out PCRM’s demand for warning labels on Atkins diet products. The plaintiff — Jody Gorran, a Florida millionaire represented by a PCRM-supplied attorney — tried to pin the blame for his high cholesterol on the legendary low-carb diet. PCRM jumped on board because Atkins dieters tend to eat lots of protein (read: meat), which doesn’t square with the group’s tofu-only agenda.

Judge Chin’s legal nod to common sense comes just after a Virginia judge dismissed PCRM’s year-old lawsuit against dairy companies. Last week dairy, this week Atkins … perhaps next week the gavel will fall on PCRM’s other lawsuit, the chicken-causes-cancer tall tale?

PCRM’s goal probably isn’t to win these frivolous animal-rights lawsuits, but to earn publicity. Maybe the group ought to take a cue from its philosophical parent, the self-described “complete press sluts” at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and just start stripping in public. It’s much cheaper, and doesn’t require any lawyers.
