Animal rights activists are usually good for entertainment value, but when they claim that chickens are “the most abused animals,” we shouldn’t take their word for it (“Minneapolis woman rescues abandoned chickens, finds them homes,” Oct. 2).
Most chicken are raised in comfort, protected from natural predators, and killed in the most painless way possible. Then they become nourishment for people. End of story. Save-the-chickens zealots call this “abuse.” The other 99 percent of Americans call it “dinner.”
There is indeed a proper place in this world for chickens. Right next to the mashed potatoes.
