It’s a mistake to refer to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine as a “doctors group” or a “physicians group.” (“Covance suit runs up outside legal fees,” Nov. 5)

Despite this group’s phony name, less than 4 percent of its members ever graduated from medical school. It’s an animal rights organization, not a serious medical authority.

More than two-thirds of PCRM’s budget comes from the wealthy founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida. At present, that budget is more than $9 million. While that’s not likely to be enough money to outlast Chandler, it’s sufficient to cause the city some serious headaches in the name of making lab rats equal to sick Americans who desperately need medical research to proceed.
