In response to “Children, cheeseburgers and the farm bill” (Nov. 16 Viewpoint):

For the record, cancer rates in the United States are decreasing from year to year. Americans’ life expectancy is at an all-time high. Research has consistently demonstrated childhood obesity results principally from our kids’ inactivity, not their diet.

It’s understandable that save-the-chickens activists want to influence the federal farm bill. But at least they should be honest about their motives.
